GURDWARA SAHIB BIDOR, PERAK
Sikh Settlement, Jalan Besar, 35500 Bidor, Perak
Around 1940, a few Sikh families had settled at the 11/2 miles Jalan Teluk Intan (Teluk Anson) area near the Bidor Railway Station. Babu Arsa Singh Lalpur and Sardar Naar Singh with the assistance of these Sikhs, built a small Gurdwara Sahib building to serve their religious needs.
Around 1950, the British resettled the Sikh community in new villages. The Sikhs who resettled in the Bidor area were mainly dairy farmers and bullock cart drivers. Around 1950, these Sikhs built a Gurdwara Sahib at the present location, which is near the Sikh settlement in Bidor. This Gurdwara Sahib building was a single storey wooden structure with a zinc roof. This Gurdwara Sahib building was demolished in 1982.
The building fund committee consisting of Sardar Mahinder Singh, Sardar Kartar Singh Lalpur, Sardar Harnam Singh Baba Bakala and Sardar Atma Singh from Sungkai, played an important role in raising donations for the new Gurdwara Sahib building.
The present Gurdwara Sahib building, a double storey brick structure, was built in 1982, on a piece of land, which is nearly two acres in size. Sant Baba Jewala Singh Ji laid the foundation stone of this Gurdwara Sahib in 1982. The newly completed building was declared open in late 1982. The cost of this Gurdwara Sahib building came to RM150,000.00 out of which RM40,000.00 was donated by the Government.
There are two rooms in the Gurdwara Sahib premises, which may be used by Sikh visitors. Sant Baba Jewala Singh Ji served as a Granthi in the Gurdwara Sahib Bidor for a period of 18 years from 1946 to 1964. Giani Pall Singh served as a Granthi here from 1970 to 1980. Giani Mahinder Singh served as a Granthi here from 1990 to 2000. The Management Committee comprises of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer and six committee members. The present Trustees are Sardar Mohan Singh, Sardar Santok Singh and Sardar Pritam Singh.
